DANIEL RACHEL
'A TASTE OF MONEY'

(Dust Records)

This is the second album from singer/songwriter and genius wordsmith Daniel Rachel, and while still showcasing most of his talents and abilities, it surpasses the quality of A Simple Twist of Folk.

Quite an impressive roster of guests appear on various tracks on 'A Taste of Money'. While McCusker (Mercury Music Prize nominee), Kate Rusby's band, Willis as well as video director Rod Main (U2, Madonna) are not be sniffed at, the two guests that will be most impressive to Scootering readers are Joe Atkinson (from Flipron, Neville Staples' Specials) and Simon Fowler (of Ocean Colour Scene fame of course!).

It is a high quality album-worth of songs, as in real songs, of which they all have 'something' special going for them. My favourites, and in no particular order are Pearl an impassioned number, forthcoming single Let It Be Mine, the uplifting, keyboard driven Driving Round the Bend which features Joe Atkinson. Face the Sun, features Simon Fowler on backing vocals, but also on production, and is a great song in its own right. There's the OCS-influenced Ode To The Fallen Heroes alongside tracks such as Bucket and Broom Song, Hearts and Bones the superb An Englishman Abroad and the gentle closing cut Shadows and Dust.

An excellent collection of original songs from a genuine rising star.
