DANIEL
RACHEL
Second album from highly fancied Solihull troubadour
Formerly the front man of Midlands Britpop also rans Rachel's Basement, the ever-persistent Rachel 's 2001 solo debut 'A Simple Twist of Folk' was an endearing and refreshing recharge of the batteries. In the 5 years since he's not been idle, calling on pals such as Ocean Colour Scene to fashion orchestral end of an era pop such as 'Let It Be Mine' and the jaunty jug band inflected 'Hearts And Bones'. The voice can grate but he captures the wry world-weary Glam gone to seed feel of late period Mott The Hoople . 'Englishman Abroad' may be a whimsical step too far but his ability to combine tenderhearted insight ('Ode To The Fallen Heroes') with the heart broken end of affair ballad ('Shadows And Dust') prove sweet enough.
